The dog bite victim can get up to $20,000 in compensation, the New York Post reported.
The woman who reported the dog attack to police was also awarded $50,000, the Post reported, citing the law firm of Korn.
The man who reported a dog attack, also named Eric, was awarded $40,000.
The Post reported that a New York state lawmaker said the law would provide for “every dollar in compensation awarded for a dog bite.”
The law would also “allow victims of serious dog bites to receive additional damages for loss of earnings, and would allow the city to institute a rule that states that, to avoid punitive damages, it would be illegal for any city to pay more than 50 percent of the total damages in a dogbite case,” the newspaper reported.
